Director / Cinematographer
Melanie is from the U.S.A. but currently lives in Malmö, Sweden. She received a Bachelors in Anthropology from Columbia University and a Masters in Documentary Filmmaking from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Her short film, Refuge, premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2014 and at the London Short Film Festival in 2015. Melanie works as a freelance director and cinematographer and is the founder of Eyeing the World.
Basel Mawlawi worked for over four years as a producer and production manager on a number of documentary projects in Amman, Jordan and Damascus, Syria which included producing a documentary series for Al-Jazeera called Camera and a City. His short film, Patchwork House, premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. He currently works as an independent producer in Malmö, Sweden.
Erik Bäfving has been working as a director and editor in Sweden since 1996. His short film Boogie Woogie Daddy received several international awards and was nominated for a Guldbagge for best documentary (the Swedish "Oscar"). Erik works as a narrative consultant and editor for both documentary and feature films. His most recent work includes Kristina Lidström's film, "Astrid" and Malin Andersson's documentary "Blood Sisters."

Eyeing the World was founded by Melanie Aronson, who moved to Sweden from NYC in 2014, and discovered a need for a production company that welcomed international filmmakers and out-of-the-box perspectives.
Our company offers an approachable platform for newcomers and emerging filmmakers to tell global stories with multicultural voices and viewpoints. Topics might include immigrant stories, international politics, religion, gender identity & sexuality, and women’s rights & perspectives.
